Dieter Heinz MD

"There is no better fit for me in medicine than family medicine. I love the diversity that a single day can bring, and I cherish watching young families grow, and being a part of their longitudinal care."

About four decades after exploring the beauty of the Willow River as a child, Dr. Dieter Heinz finds himself back in western Wisconsin, providing care to families in the communities that hold a special place in his heart.

Dr. Heinz acquired his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Boulder, and later on went to Ross University to study medicine and turn his passion into a career. He finished his residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, and accomplished his board certification in 2005. His experience with a great general practitioner, Dr. Gingery, in his younger years is what inspired Dr. Heinz to choose his career path. Under the physician’s care, he had learned the value of “…open-mindedness, the art of listening, and understanding that every person has a story to tell.” Dr. Heinz has been practicing family medicine since 2005 and he sees no other area in the field that suits him better. He finds endless learning opportunities in his day-to-day practice and fulfillment in witnessing families grow while becoming part of their long-term care.

Apart from family medicine, Dr. Heinz takes interest in specialty areas including asthma, sports medicine, and men’s reproductive health. Among his most fulfilling accomplishments as a healthcare provider is helping pediatric obese patients get back on track and live healthier lives.

He passionately advocates keeping things in moderation through leading by example. He believes in the 90/10 rule when it comes to diet and advises his patients to avoid added sugars as these significantly raise the risk of various diseases.

Beyond the confines of his clinic, Dr. Heinz is an active enthusiast of the outdoors. He enjoys cross country skiing, fly fishing, and mountain and road biking. His thrill-seeking nature had even led him once to hitching a ride with a cannibal.

Dr. Dieter Heinz chose to join Hudson Physicians because of its diverse set of healthcare providers who have fostered a friendly and welcoming environment. He is also fascinated with the organization’s reputation amongst patients which reflects its mission statement of providing “a better way to be treated.”  He is especially excited to be part of the Hudson Physicians’ team at the New Richmond Medical Center which he believes would elevate the quality and variety of care the people of Western Wisconsin receive.
