Yer Xiong MD
"Sometimes doing less is exactly the right prescription."
Yer Xiong, MD, is a Family Medicine physician who values the unique relationships that develop between patients and their healthcare providers. With 18 years of experience, she enjoys helping people navigate life's health challenges while partnering with them to create personalized care plans that align with their goals and values.
Dr. Xiong was first drawn to medicine by the science behind it, but it was the human connection that ultimately made her career choice clear. She appreciates that medicine allows her to build meaningful relationships with patients and make a positive difference in their lives. As she explains, sometimes patients change her life just as much as she changes theirs.
Family Medicine appealed to Dr. Xiong because it provides the opportunity to care for patients across every stage of life. She enjoys the variety that comes with treating a broad range of conditions and values the flexibility to tailor her practice to meet both community needs and her own professional interests.
She chose the Hudson Physicians team because of its commitment to both patients and caregivers. Dr. Xiong appreciates that the organization values physician input and provides clinicians with the tools, support, and autonomy needed to deliver exceptional care. She was also drawn to the Stillwater Urgent Care & Clinic because of its small-town feel while remaining close to her home.
Her special medical interests include mental health, women's health, child health, hospice care, and preventive health. She believes that partnering with patients and families is often the key to successful outcomes, especially when developing practical care plans that fit a person's unique circumstances.
One patient experience that stands out involved a 92-year-old woman whose family was concerned about declining appetite, confusion, and low blood pressure. Through careful listening and collaboration with the patient and her nieces, Dr. Xiong helped create a plan that focused on hydration, nutrition, and simplifying medications. The experience reinforced her belief that thoughtful, individualized care often leads to the best results and that sometimes doing less can be exactly the right prescription.
Outside of work, Dr. Xiong enjoys hiking, especially in America's national parks. She also loves to travel and has a special connection to Germany, where she lived with a host family as a teenager. Years later, those friendships have grown into family-like relationships, and Germany remains one of her favorite destinations. She speaks Hmong and German in addition to English.
Her advice for staying healthy centers on consistency. Dr. Xiong encourages people to move every day, prioritize sleep, choose whole foods most of the time, and focus their energy on what they can control. She believes healthy habits do not need to be perfect to be effective.
