Expert care for hormone health

Endocrinology services at Hudson Physicians are provided by Dr. Jennifer McVean (pediatric endocrinology), Dr. Kheng Lau (adult endocrinology), and Sara Harris.

Our team diagnoses and manages hormone-related conditions that affect metabolism, growth, development, energy, and long-term health.

Hormones influence nearly every system in the body.

When they fall out of balance, symptoms may develop gradually and are often easy to overlook until they begin to interfere with daily life.

Our Endocrinology team brings clarity, answers, and individualized treatment plans designed to support lasting wellbeing.

Pediatric Endocrinology

Dr. Jennifer McVean

Jennifer McVean MD pediatric endocrinologist Hudson WI

Children are not small adults. Their hormone systems are still developing, which requires a specialized and thoughtful approach to care.

Dr. Jennifer McVean specializes in pediatric endocrinology and focuses exclusively on hormone and metabolic conditions affecting children and adolescents. She is passionate about providing families with clear guidance, proactive care, and long-term support.

Dr. McVean evaluates and treats:

  • Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Early or delayed puberty
  • Growth concerns and short stature
  • Thyroid disorders in children
  • Pediatric obesity and metabolic conditions
  • Adrenal and pituitary disorders
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in adolescents

She has a special interest in Type 1 diabetes awareness and early identification. Research shows that relatives of people with Type 1 diabetes are significantly more likely to develop the condition than the general population.

Studies also demonstrate that when children are monitored through early detection programs, the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at diagnosis drops from approximately 30 percent to 3 percent. DKA is a serious and potentially life-threatening complication of Type 1 diabetes. Early awareness and education can make a meaningful difference in outcomes.

Dr. McVean’s approach centers on empowering families with knowledge, tools, and confidence so children can thrive while managing endocrine conditions.

Appointments with Dr. McVean are available twice monthly, and her pediatric endocrinology clinic continues to grow as families seek specialized hormone care close to home.

  • Obesity or Adiposity-Based Chronic Disease
  • Metabolic abnormalities

Dr. Lau works closely with Primary Care providers to develop long-term, evidence-based treatment plans designed to improve quality of life and prevent complications.

Due to high demand, adult endocrinology appointments may have extended scheduling timelines.
