Jennifer McVean MD

"As someone who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child, I understand firsthand the challenges families face. My goal is to combine expert care with compassion, helping children live full, healthy lives."

Dr. Jennifer McVean is a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist who brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work with children and families.

She specializes in caring for young people with Type 1 diabetes, drawing from her own experience with the condition to provide empathetic, individualized care.

Dr. McVean earned her medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School, followed by a pediatric residency at the University of Colorado and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin. She is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology.

With nearly two decades of experience, Dr. McVean has served in clinical, academic, and research roles—including positions with the University of Minnesota, Gundersen Health System, and Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota. She has also held leadership roles in global medical affairs at Medtronic Diabetes, contributing to advancements in insulin delivery technology.

Her academic work includes extensive research on Type 1 diabetes and automated insulin delivery systems, with publications in top journals such as JAMA and Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics. She has been an invited speaker at international conferences and remains active in organizations like the American Diabetes Association and the Pediatric Endocrine Society.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. McVean is committed to service. She has volunteered for over 15 years with the American Diabetes Association’s Camp Needlepoint, where she supports children living with diabetes.

She also serves on the JDRF Minnesota Board of Directors, continuing her mission to advocate, educate, and inspire hope.

Now seeing patients at Hudson Physicians, Dr. McVean is passionate about partnering with families to help children thrive with diabetes.
