Hudson Physicians Hires CEO for First Time in its History.
After 30 years in business as an independent healthcare provider group, Hudson Physicians has added a CEO to the top of their leadership team.
Matt Brandt, CEO joined the organization in late 2018 when Ernie Wallin, the long-time administrator, retired after 23 years of service. “As we continue to expand our offerings, locations and staff, we realized it was time to bring in an industry professional to guide our growth strategy,” said Dr. Mark Stannard, current board president and family medicine physician.
Previously Brandt was the CEO of Multicare Associates, a private practice group owned by doctors, and quite similar to Hudson Physicians where smaller clinics offered more innovative, personal care than the big system approach. Prior to that he was Business Operations and Finance Manager of HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinics.
Hudson Physicians is an independent physician owned practice. A board of directors oversees its operations and consists of five of the 18 shareholders who rotate in and out by an election process. They currently employee over 40 total healthcare providers and 200 employees. With multiple locations in Hudson, and Baldwin, their specialties include family medicine, OB/GYN services, sports and spine medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, occupational medicine, retail clinic and urgent care services.
“This is a dynamic organization with top-rated, talented providers who really care about the community and the wellbeing of their patients,” said Brandt. “As an independent practice, we can be more flexible and focused on people, not productivity numbers.” Brant sited upcoming renovations and technology upgrades as two examples of how they will continue to improve and compete with other healthcare companies coming into the market.
Brandt is passionate about generational health and sees that as an advantage to Hudson Physicians’ patients. Their providers encourage families to “stick together” when it comes to medical care, so they can see the whole picture and proactively manage each person’s health in relation to their family history.
“We’re also on top of trending health issues that face Western Wisconsin such as opiate abuse, obesity and mental health. We’ll continue to work with our staff and educate the community on prevention and treatment options to improve population health,” stated Brandt.
Although there’s a lot of work ahead, Matt is optimistic about the health of this community and the organization. He and his wife, Nikki have three children, ages 12, 10 and 9. They enjoy their time outdoors, boating, hunting, snowmobiling and living on the St. Croix.
