Vampires and werewolves and witches, oh my!
While staying clear of Halloween’s favorite friends, don’t let an accident spoil the fun of trick-or-treating.
Follow these five safe tips for trick-or-treating tips gleaned from safekids.org and Reader’s Digest for a howling good time:
1. Walk Safely
Plan your route in advance to avoid getting lost and over-tired legs. Wear comfortable shoes and double-tie shoelaces to avoid tripping.
2. Accompany Your Kids
Those up to age 12 need supervision.
3. Costume Considerations
Avoid masks that can hinder vision and breathing; choose makeup instead and think visibility with reflective tape and flashlights. Keep costumes short to prevent tripping. Avoid costumes that have weapons as accessories.
4. Watch Out While Driving
Be especially alert for kids from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.
5. Check Your Child’s Candy
Throw away any candy that is not in its original wrapper, or looks as though it has been opened.
